CHICAGO -- Even though Ryan Raburn hasnt played a lot lately, he certainly didnt look rusty at the plate Thursday night. Many of the Cleveland Indians other hitters were in a groove, too. Raburn went 3 for 3 with a homer and five RBIs, and Cleveland routed the Chicago White Sox 14-3 to remain to 1 1-2 games out of the second AL wild-card spot. Raburn, who has been hampered by nagging right calf and left heel injuries, played in just his third game since Aug. 18. Besides his 16th homer, the right-handed hitting outfielder doubled and scored two runs. "We said coming into the series that Raburn would play a big part because were going to face three lefties," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He not only gets his, but he gives us a lot of production for a guy that plays maybe half the year or not even that." Raburn, who is 29 for 85 against left-handed pitching, has appeared in 73 of 146 games this season. In his career, Raburn has hit 17 of his 70 homers and driven in 66 of his 267 RBIs against the White Sox. "Hes maintained his swing all year," Francona said. "Its been pretty rare when he did not have his timing or not have his balance. "Hes been really consistent with it, and as a bench player, thats not the easiest thing to do." The Indians blew the game open with a seven-run, rain-delayed fifth inning, when their first nine batters reached base. Charlie Leesman, who relieved Chicago starter John Danks (4-13), faced seven hitters, all of whom scored. Nick Swisher had a solo homer and three RBIs, and Asdrubal Cabrera added a solo shot to support starter Corey Kluber (9-5), who won his second straight start after missing a month with right middle finger sprain. The right-hander gave up two runs and six hits in five innings. "We knew we were going to have to bring some energy today," Swisher said. "We just kind of started it off in the first inning and just continued to keep it going. "Were trying to get into that playoff regardless of however we do it, whether its wild card or division. Were going to keep fighting until the last out." Relievers Josh Tomlin, Vinnie Pestano and Preston Guilmet worked the next four innings, allowing one unearned run. Danks lasted four innings and allowed seven runs, nine hits and three walks in his third straight loss. In his last three outings, the left-hander has given up 17 runs in 14 1-3 innings. "If I had a reason I wouldve fixed it," Danks said. "I just couldnt do what I wanted to do. "Nothing worked. I threw the ball over where I wasnt supposed to throw it. Its embarrassing. This is supposed to be the major leagues and I went out there and pitched like that." Chicago reliever Dylan Axelrod pitched five innings to close the game, allowing no runs and four hits. Paul Konerko hit a solo homer for the White Sox, who are in last place in the AL Central and have lost 11 of 13. Clevelands Jason Kipnis went 2 for 2 with two RBIs as the Indians began a seven-game trip with a victory that improved them to 78-68. Tampa Bay, at 79-66, is in the second wild-card slot. Cleveland closed within six games of idle Detroit in the AL Central. Swisher, who sat out Wednesdays loss to Kansas City, hit his 18th homer with one out to open the scoring. After Kipnis singled and Carlos Santana walked, Raburns line shot to left barely cleared the fence for his 16th homer that made it 4-0. After Kipnis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to extend Clevelands lead to 7-2, the Indians ran away with seven runs in the fifth. NOTES: Injured Indians ace Justin Masterson (14-10) may have a chance to rejoin the team before the season ends, according to Francona. The right-hander, who leads Cleveland in wins, left a Sept. 2 game against Baltimore in the second inning with a strained left oblique muscle. He played catch up to 90 feet on Wednesday. "He had no issues and well just continue that progression," Francona said. "He did well. Its going to depend on how quickly he comes back." ... Swisher and Cabrera were back in the starting lineup after being held out Wednesday. Cabrera entered Thursdays game in a 3-for-27 slump. ... White Sox rookie INF Marcus Semien got his fourth career start and second straight at 3B after Conor Gillaspie made three errors on Tuesday. Semien doubled for his first extra-base hit and scored his first run. ... Cleveland RHP Danny Salazar (1-2) is scheduled to face Chicago LHP Hector Santiago (4-8) in the second game of the four-game series on Friday. Those the words of Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell following James Taylors retirement. As such, it is perhaps little surprise that Taylor was able to fit so much into a career that ultimately spanned just eight years.Indeed, in that time, Taylor did enough to ensure that his absence will be sorely felt, both by England and on the county circuit. Here we look at a few of the moments that helped to shape his career… Watch Taylors interview with Sky Sports Ian Ward On DemandSurrey v Leicestershire, County Championship - August 3, 2009He made his debut the previous year but it wasnt until the summer of 2009, at the age of 19, that Taylor really announced himself. The then Leicestershire batsman scored an impressive 1207 first class runs across the season, hitting three centuries and six 50s at an average of 57.47. Taylor hit an unbeaten 207 for Leicestershire at the Oval However, it was one innings in particular that really caught the eye. Taylors remarkable 207 not out against Surrey at the Oval was not only the highest score by a Leicestershire player for 11 years but also made him the countys youngest ever double centurion.England v South Africa, Test series - summer 2012Three years on and having made the move to Nottinghamshire, Taylor was called up to the England Test squad and made his debut in the second Test against South Africa at Headingley. Taylor shared a century partnership with Pietersen on debut but didnt last long in the Test side Despite scoring a useful 34 in a partnership of 147 with Kevin Pietersen, as the match finished in a draw, Taylor was dropped having struggled in the following Test at Lords. He was subsequently criticised by Pietersen, who questioned whether he was up for it against a ferocious Proteas bowling attack.Sri Lanka v England, 4th ODI - December 7, 2014Two years in the international wilderness followed for Taylor, despite his continued success in county cricket. However, after averaging 88 in domestic one-day cricket in 2014, the England selectors could ignore him no longer and the diminutive batsman was selected for the ODI series in Sri Lanka that winter. Taylor hit fifty on his long-awaited ODI debut for England Having been left out for the first three games, Taylor came into the side for the fourth ODI, in Colombo, and soon went about making up for lost time. Batting at no 3, Taylor arrived at the crease in just the second over and had made an important knock of 90 by the time he departed in the 35th. England eventually lost the match but Titch did enough to prove he had what it took to make it at international level.Sussex v Nottinghamshire, County Championship - July 20, 2015With a place in the ODI team secured, Taylors next challenge was to show that he was ready to step up to international level in the longer form of the game. In the summer of 2015 he did just that, again scoring over 1000 first class runs, at an average of 51.33. Taylor hit a first class best of 291 against Sussex last summer Once more though, it was a single innings that really hammered home what he was capable of.dddddddddddd Indeed, heading into the match with Sussex, in 16 innings Taylor had a top score of just 61 for the season and an average of 29.291 runs later and those figures looked significantly healthier. It was a stunning innings in which Sussex were never given a sniff of a chance and a record breaking one to boot - it was the highest score by a Notts player for 76 years, their highest ever individual score against Sussex, their fourth highest of all time and a new ground record.England v Australia, 3rd ODI - September 8, 2015Despite having established his place in the side, Taylor was still without an ODI century going into the series with Australia. With England 2-0 down going into the 3rd ODI at Old Trafford, he picked the perfect time to change that. A pick of the action from Englands innings in the 3rd ODI at Old Trafford It was a stubborn, steady innings from Taylor and he managed just a single boundary on his way to 50 before pushing on as the innings progressed, reaching his ton in the penultimate over, and helping England reach 300. It proved more than enough as they bowled Australia out for 207 to keep the series alive.South Africa v England, Test series - December-January 2015/16After winning back a place in the Test side for the final Test against Pakistan in the autumn of 2015 - and scoring a Test best 76 - Taylor kept his place for the four-match series in South Africa. Watch this sensational catch at short leg by Taylor to get rid of Hashim Amla A battling knock of 70 in the first Test helped provide the base for a comprehensive 271-run victory in Durban. He was unable to maintain that form with the bat for the rest of the series but he continued to contribute, taking two stunning catches at short leg in the third Test at the Wanderers as England claimed a series-clinching win.
